Become a foster carer to a guide dog
What?
Guide dogs are indeed eyes on four paws for their blind owners. See for yourself, watch this short movie. There are around 18.000 blind people in Bulgaria, on the Balkans there are more than 200.000. The mission of “Eyes on four paws” is to create a guide dogs training center. Before being ready for training, the guide dog-to-be needs to live with a foster family for a year to develop basic social skills.
After going through initial instruction, the foster family will be responsible of taking care with love and patience of a 2-week old baby golden or labrador retriever. They should raise a healthy, well-bread and happy dog, who is easily lead and controlled, has no fear of the intensity of the city life, and can ride public transport. During the whole period of taking care of the dog, weekly trainings and social events will be taking place in Sofia. If needed, there will also be a private instructor available.
Important notice – the foster family shouldn't forget for that the dog will be their responsibility only temporary. Turning one year old, the dog will leave and continue with its professional path. A contract will be signed.

Skills needed?
The skills a volunteer needs are an understanding of the cause, strong will and motivation, love, patience, enough free time. An important condition for the foster family is to not have children under 10 years of age.
Equipment?
Everything needed for proper raising of the dog is provided – blankets, mats, bowls, toys, collar.
Transport?
The volunteers get a ticket for all the public transport for themselves and the dog.
Food?
The food, vitamins and supplements for the dog are provided by the organization.
Veterinary?
The organization provides the puppies all the veterinary health care and exams.
Health risks?
The puppy comes disinfected and vaccinated. There is a health risk only if you have a dog allergies.

Здравейте г-жо Колева, грижата за младо куче в приемно сем. е свързана със спазването на строги правила и условия за дисципина и социализация на животното, за да стане управляемо и водимо в градската среда, да не се притеснява от силен шум, превозни средства, да е безразлично към котки, гълъби и др.кучета. Когато има малки дечица е много трудно да се постигне всичко това, защото те в своята радост, вълнение и емоции не могат да контролират действията си и в моменти, когато кучето трябва да стои мирно или не трябва да се качва на леглото, дивана/от гледна точка на удобството на слепия човек/детето може да попречи за дисциплинирането на кучето.
