What?

Since 2017, the social enterprise Humans in the Loop has been offering training and job opportunities to people affected by conflicts in the countries where they seek asylum.

For yet another year, the team is launching the HITL Stars course, a three-month training program in English language and computer skills. Participants are divided into three levels – beginner, intermediate, and advanced – and are located both within and outside of Bulgaria.

Volunteers are once again sought to dedicate one hour per week to meet online with their course partner and help them improve and break through in English, learn more about our culture (and vice versa), and increase their job prospects. Will you join?

When?

Meetings will take place over 10 weeks or approximately three calendar months, starting on October 1, 2024. The deadline for registration is September 7. Your commitment will be one hour weekly at a time that suits your schedule.

If you wish, after the program ends, you can sign up for the next one with a different partner.

All meetings are held online.

Why participate?

This project is a great opportunity to help a person fleeing conflict in their country learn English and find a good job in a fun and friendly way.

Here’s what one of the previous volunteers said about the course: "I am very happy I participated because my conversations with my peer from Iran, who fled to Afghanistan, helped not only her but also me – to appreciate what I have and motivated me to continue giving whatever and whenever I can to help."

Required skills?

Good command of the English language – preferably C1 level.

After you fill out the registration form, the organizers will provide you with more information about the project and the meetings.

Are there age restrictions for volunteers? All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Will I receive a volunteer participation certificate? Yes.
