Become a volunteer at the recycling workshop of "Precious Plastic Sofia"
What's this about?
Precious Plastic Sofia is the first local branch of the global organization Precious Plastic. They need volunteers to continue collecting, processing, and giving new life to plastic waste.
The organization's workshop is equipped with the necessary machines and consumables but needs more people to dedicate an hour or two on weekends to the cause. If learning how to recycle plastic with your own hands sounds interesting to you, keep reading to find out how to get involved.
What activities will I be involved in?
You can choose from the following activities:
- Sorting collected plastic by type and color
- Shredding plastic and producing new items with our special machines
- Researching new methods and technologies for recycling
- Assisting the organization in any other helpful ways
When?
You can start by attending the team's mini workshops, held every Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. There, they will teach you craftsmanship techniques, how to operate the machines, and transform discarded plastic into beautiful items.
Once you gain experience, the team will welcome you to participate long-term and come to the workshop in your free time, even without anyone else necessarily being present.
Where?
In Sofia, at 13 20th April Street, Trade Complex "Russian Monument." See the exact location on the map here.
Why should I participate?
By dedicating some of your time, you'll be able to show yourself and everyone around you that everyone can help tackle the plastic problem.
Required equipment?
Just wear something comfortable, and the team will provide you with full professional protective gear - work gloves, safety goggles, and a breathing mask (only under certain conditions).
Required skills?
Nothing special - they'll teach you everything there.
Health risks?
If protective equipment is not used and safety instructions (with which you will be thoroughly familiarized) are not followed, there are the following health risks: Hand injuries during plastic sorting and working with tools (scissors, pliers, hammer, knife, etc.) Prolonged work in a closed space with the injector and extruder (machines that heat the plastic) carries the risk of inhaling fumes and smoke.
Are there age restrictions for volunteers?
No, but if you're not yet of legal age, bring a parental informed consent form. See a template here. Young children are also welcome with a parent or guardian.
How do I participate?

Once a mission you participate in ends, you can tell us how it went in a couple of sentences ("it was great" won't do).
It's simple: after the end we send you instructions - follow them. This way you earn points and rise in rank , others get inspired and we're all happy.
